------BIG FAMILY NEWS------

baby news! (not what we expected!!)

Okay folks, we started this blog last fall to keep everyone up to date on our adoption from Ethiopia. Well, Melissa and I were thrown a major curve ball when she started showing signs of pregnancy . Since, biological kids have been slow happening for us we decided to keep this private until she reached the end of Tri #1 and that happened yesterday!

Confusion!!

What about our Ethioian kids?

Can we still adopt?

Why does this great news bring also a measure of sadness?

What now?

You have likely noticed that we haven't metioned our adoption for the past month or so on the blog. We just didn't know where we were with it LOGISTICALLY or EMOTIONALLY. As so many of our family and friends have been a huge support to us in this we will try to keep you in the loop.

What we know:

>Melissa is due in mid-January 2010.

>We are not able to adopt during our pregnancy or right afterwards.

>Adoption is still in our future.

>There are a ton of little ones that need families and we can't wait to welcome them to ours.

>Unless Melissa is pregnant with twins, we are going to need to change the name of our blog... :-)

$$$$$$$$$ Attention to those that have donated for our adoption! $$$$$$$$$

$ We have kept careful track of donations and want to be very respectful of the much generosity that has came our way.

$ We are going to take all money that was given to us for the adoption and donate it to the orphanage in Ethiopia so it can directly help the kids until they find a home.

$ We have a garage full of donations for a yard sale. We will either have the yardsale and donate the money or we will add it to the yardsale of a family we know that is in the adoption process also.

$ If anyone that has donated to our adoption would rather us return funds to them, we will be happy to do that instead.

Our family and friends mean so much to us!
We're super excited to finally let everyone know our big news!

Congrats!! That is such wonderful and suprising news! I can't even believe it. Were you so shocked? I think it's awesome you've worked so hard at adoption and think it's such a great thing, but to be able to experience pregnancy and the whole experience this will bring...I don't even know what to say, I'm just excited for you! Hope Melissa is feeling good and that all goes healthy and well with being prego! Oh...and watch out, twins are in the air these days! :)

Congrats. Can't wait to see you guys so Roger and I can explore the ecological undertones of Theodore Roethke's Far Field. Oooh, I'm getting all giddy just thinking about it! But I'm also super excited for the biological baby. Kat says to go buy Melissa a doghnut. I bet the little one would like it too.

thanks a bunch for the comments.
Melissa is feeling pretty well. Well, enough that she is up at girls' camp for 5 days.

Wow guys. We're excited for you. Maybe Barnick Baby can be born on my birthday Jan. 1st:)
I'm a little surprised and excited for you and glad that you're still wanting to adopt in the future. Melissa- I really hope you have an easy-ish pregnancy. Are you going to use a midwife? They are my favorite way to go.
We love you guys! All the surprises life throws at us- God sure if keeping us on our toes:)

HO-LY-COW! Not expecting that one! So dang excited for you! Hope you're feeling okay, Melissa. I'm amazed you could keep quiet that long. I always got so sick I couldn't not tell. Well, that and I'm lousy keeping my own secrets... ;0
Are you going to peek on the gender? Let me know if you do so I can color-match the gift accordingly.
Yay!!
