Creature Comforts

When I, Roger, hear the phrase "creature comforts" I think of my friend, Bugg. You know how some dogs are bred do track down foxes or stray sheep or escaped convicts?... well, Bugg is the product of a epic breeding program which has created a dog able to track down the most cozy path through each day. Observe.

Sunshine? Check. 2 Pillows? Check. Taking up half the sofa? Check.

Would you like a tropical drink, Bug? Our other creature, Rizzo, tends to take a more active approach to life (at least in short bursts). We explored Marshal Park in Portland on Saturday. We walked the wooded trails for over an hour and only saw 3 other people.
One thing that Portland does well is "parks".
There are miles and miles of serene, wooded trails and parks within the city.

I was going to go to Washington/Forest Park (over 5 Thousand acres!), but got a tip on this little hidden gem. Fortuitous!
...
Indeed I had a 'very Portland day' on Saturday. When you move to the Portland area it is just a matter of time before you:

1. buy a Subaru

2. grow a beard (if male)

3. buy a bike

4. take up recycling as a hobby (or "religion" for some)

5. vote Nader

No, I haven't completed this list! Don't worry, my friends in Texas. But I did do the following Portland-endorsed activites all in ONE DAY.

a. Bought a bicycle (from a man with a beard)

b. Bought a veggie burger at a "Friends of Trees" fundraiser

c. Hiked a forested trail

and best for last...

d. Visited the Portland LDS Temple

Friday Fun-Day
So, on friday afternoon I got 'invited' to a special workout class called "CrossFit".
It was in a storage unit. It was brutal.
It is supposed to make you feel like this:
It made my knees shake and my lungs scream . On my way to my car afterwards I tried to spit and didn't have the lung capacity left to clear the front of my shirt. ugh. Will I go back? Stay tuned.
(It actually brought back some repressed
memories of High School wrestling workouts. FUN! )

Melissa does most of the blogging so I would really like it if you took a moment and left a comment for my blog today.
Our friends and family mean a lot to us. I'm glad we have new ways to stay in touch.

this post made me smile. love all the photos. and the list for when you move to new york is strangely similar to yours (sort of): buy a 4wd truck (only to have to replace it before it's paid for due to all the salted roads), grow a beard and fatten up as you will have to hibernate for 8 months, take up skiing or buy a sled/snowmobile, definitely take up recycling, and vote clinton!!!

hugs :)

yes, us Texans think y'all on the left coast are weird! If it gets too much we will always welcome you back to the promised land.....of course you might have to apply for a green card if we have seceded from the Union.

I wish I could lounge on that couch with BUG right now. I would rub his belly and make wishes.

Roger, loved the voice mail. It made my day.

Melissa,
We will be in Mississippi for two more weeks. But then we will be closer to you for the summer. I can't wait to see you.

love and hugs,
Kat

One more thing to add to your protland list. As you know we found out that north westerners sometimes wear socks with sandals. Who knew!
